On Sunday 25th July the county of Essex held their Squash57 Singles Championships at The Woodford Wells Club.

Despite the torrential rain and track-and-trace’s attempts to disrupt entries it was a hugely successful event and packed day with over 30 competitors from 9 clubs challenging for the 6 titles on offer.

The two largest draws were in OPEN, where Gareth Naidoo defeated the reigning champion Danny Weights, and in the O50’s where Patrick Osborn retained his title having to defeat consecutively a string of inter-county team-mates in the form of Pascual Dibbatista, Dave McKenna, Fred Cooke and Marc Thornley. The smallest draw, though arguably the one with the most quality, saw Zoe Fennell defeat Amber Marshall in the Open Women. Both Zoe and Amber are National Singles Finalists so this was, as expected, a crowd pleasing encounter to kick the day off.
