ESSEX 035’s January 14th Stage 2 Match Report
Team: Paul Wallace, Danny Weights, David Smith, Malcolm McEwen, Cliff Bennett, Jason Potter, Mike Lofthouse

Essex played hosts to Berkshire and Suffolk at Bishops Stortford for the over 35’s regional group stage 2.
First up was Essex v Suffolk. Essex welcomed two new debuts for Danny Weights and Jason Potter.
First on court was Cliff and Paul .Cliff finding things tougher to start with and was trailing 2-0. I managed to clinch at 3-0 win but it did get a bit tight in the 2nd and 3rd. Cliff then found his rhythm and duly won the battle comfortably 3-2.
Next on court were Malcolm and Jason. Again similar to the above games Jason was 2-0 up but on the other court Malcolm was 2-0 down. However Malcolm who often starts slow managed to claw back the match and win a fairly easy fifth. Whilst Jason was playing some good squash but was heading for a close 4th game. However managed to nick if 12-10 to give Essex a 4-0 lead.
Last on courts were the no 2s and new boy Danny Weights was in no mood to let Suffolk have any consolation points and ran out a comfortable winner 3-0. Essex won 5-0
For this match in came Dave Smith for Malcolm and Mike for Jason.
First on were myself and Mike. I managed to sneak a 3-1 win after I managed to let an 8-1 lead slip and lost a fair amount of momentum in the second game going down 12-10. On the other court Mike wasn’t having his best game and went down 3-1. So all square still!
Next on court were Dave and Cliff. Cliff played some great squash and managed to shade the 3rd and 4th to win 3-1.Whilst Dave had a close game in the 3rd 13-11 to win 3-0 and therefore the win for Essex on the day.
However Danny showed us all how to win in style by beating a former top 100 professional squash player 11-0 in the second and only dropping 9 points in total. Maybe he should be in the under 35s!!
Once again I must say a special thanks to Andrew Mulvey for letting us Host at their club, what an excellent venue Stortford is.

And thanks to all the players that took part this season including those that couldn’t make this weekend.
Our record is 7 wins from 8 so pretty good going and hopefully next year we can become National champions!
