Frinton Squash Club Championships 2016
Frinton Squash Club Finals a great Success!
This year’s Frinton Squash Club Annual Championships proved to be a great success with three ladies and girl’s events and three men’s and boy’s events. On the finals night held recently some old rivalries were re-enacted and some new ones created.
The Men’s A Final saw TTC Phys Ed Teacher Rob Rouse defeat rival Rivhu Khan in an exciting four-setter. Both were vying for the most mentions on the honor’s board, with prior to this year’s final winning five titles each, so with all to play for Rivhu playing fast and attacking squash, took the first game 15/11. In the second he seemed to take a breather as Rouse took the game 15/2, the third and fourth however were pretty much nip and tuck, but on this occasion the younger man managed to prevail despite some tough points played, winning 15/10, 15/11.
The Men’s B final saw veteran Sue Vine playing a considerably younger Jack Bruce and despite a brilliant performance and managing to take one game 16/14!, Bruce prevailed after many long punishing rallies going on to win the match 3-1.
The Junior Boy’s U15 event played earlier in the week, featuring nine players with four of the N.E.S.A, (North Essex Squash Academy), students taking part. Each student played to the very best of their abilities and both N.E.S.A coaches (Chris Vine and Adam Duce) were extremely pleased with the high standard of squash on display.
Results were: Connor Jarmain 1st with 44 points, 2nd Alfie Cook with 38 points, 3rd place Harrison Smith - 34 points and 4th place Ollie Fuller - 32 points.
The Ladies B event had 4 players all of whom were new to the game having recently joined the brand new “squash Girls Can” sessions on a Monday morning. After a round robin event Debbie Heffer emerged the winner with just one point more than the Runner-Up Justine Goss.
The Ladies A final due to take place between Sue Vine and Sarah Bruce was unfortunately delayed owing to a last minute injury sustained and the girls final will take place next week.
So all in all a great week, some great support from the squash club members and some new exciting young talent showing great potential for the future.
